Bl Michael Giedroyc
Today we will learn about Bl. Michael Giedroyc. Bl. Michael had lived a very difficult life struggling both physically and mentally however, he never let that stop him grow in his holiness and faith.
Bl. Michael was born very close to Vilnius, Lithuania, and he had suffered from some physical and permanent handicaps ever since birth. Bl. Michael was considered a dwarf and he was only able to use one foot. Due to his delicate physical condition, his formal education was frequently interrupted. However, as time went on, Bl. Michael showed special skills such as metalwork. Bl. Michael was able to work with bronze and silver, and he created sacred vessels, including chalices.
Later on Bl. Michael was able to travel to Kraków, Poland, and while he was in Kraków he joined the Augustinians. Bl. Michael was able to receive permission to live the life of a hermit in a cell adjoining the monastery. While Bl. Michael was there he was able to spend his days in intense prayer, he had fasted and abstained from all meat and he had lived to an old age. Bl. Michael’s long life had ended during the year 1485 in Kraków.
Five hundred years later, St. John Paul II was able to visit the city and he was able to speak to the faculty of the Pontifical Academy of Theology. During the 15th century in Kraków, the pope said, it was “the century of saints.” Among those he cited was Blessed Michael Giedroyc. Bl. Michael's feast day is celebrated on May 4.

Bl. Michael help us to offer up all of our pain and suffering up for others. Help us to use our pain and suffering to strengthen our devotion and intimacy with Christ.
