Blessed Jolenta of Poland

Today we celebrated the feast day of Bl. Jolenta.

Bl. Jolenta was born during the year 1235 and she was the daughter of Bela IV, who was the King of Hungary. Bl. Jolenta’s sister was, St. Kunigunde, and was actually married to the Duke of Poland.

Bl. Jolenta was eventually sent to Poland where her sister was actually able to supervise her education. Eventually, Bl. Jolenta had gotten married and she married Boleslaus, who was the Duke of Greater Poland. Bl. Jolenta during her life was able to use her material means to assist many of the poor, the sick, the widows, and the orphans. Bl. Jolenta’s husband later decided to join her in the building of hospitals, convents, and churches.

After the sad passing of her husband and the marriage of two of her daughters, St. Jolenta felt a large calling and desire to enter the religious. Her third daughter actually entered the convent of the Poor Clares. Due to the very large war that was occurring it forced St. Jolenta to move to another convent where despite her reluctance, she was made abbess.

During this time St. Jolenta was able to serve her Franciscan sisters by word and example, that her fame and good works had continued to spread and many people begun to learn about them. Bl. Jolenta’s favorite devotion was the Passion of Christ. Also during her life, Jesus appeared to her, telling her of her coming death. Bl. Jolenta died during June 11, 1295. Many miracles, have occurred through her powerful intercession.

Bl. Jolenta’s feast day is celebrated on June 12.

Prayer to Bl. Jolenta

Bl. Jolenta intercede that we may be able to strengthen our devotion to The Lord as you did during your life and help us to help everyone we meet. Help us to give away what we have to others who can’t afford it so that they may be able to be taken cared of and feel loved.

Amen
