St. Angelo’s life story has been passed down for many generations, it has played an important part in many Catholic’s lives whether it was helping them overcome the fear of being persecuted or tortured for their beliefs, or by helping them strengthen their relationship with God.
St. Angelo was born on March 3, 1185 in Jerusalem. St. Angelo’s parents were both born Jews from Jerusalem who later made the decision to convert to Christianity after they had received a very powerful and beautiful vision from Our Lady.
In the vision they had, Our Lady told them that the Messiah that they had been awaiting had already came down to earth and redeemed his people. Our Lady promised them that they would have two sons. Our Lady told them that one son would grow up and flourish like an olive tree on the heights of Carmel and their other son would become a glorious martyr.
Ever since a young age, both sons displayed very good mental and spiritual gifts and graces. When the twins had turned eighteen years old, they both decided to enter the Carmelite Order. During that time they had both already learned how to speak Greek, Latin, and Hebrew.
After St. Angelo had served God as a hermit on Mount Carmel for around five years, Our Lord had appeared to him and told him to make his way to Sicily, Italy where St. Angelo would be able to have the grace to offer the sacrifice of his life. St. Angelo being a very obedient servant immediately obeyed his calling and made his way to Sicily, Italy.
During St. Angelo’s journey from the East he was able to convert many sinners through his beautiful teachings and lectures. St. Angelo also continued to Convert sinners while he was in Sicily, Italy through his teachings, and also by his miracles.
During this time, over two hundred Jews who lived in Palermo, Italy wanted to be baptized as a result of his beautiful actions and his magnificent teachings.
St. Angelo was also able to convert many sinners while he was in Licata, Italy, once again he was able to do this through his preaching and miracles. However, St. Angelo stirred up the fury of a man who was known as Berengarius. Berengarius was a very wicked and rude man, and St. Angelo denounced his shameless and wicked actions. On May 5, 1220 while St. Angelo was in Licata, Italy preaching to a crowd, a huge group of rough criminals had headed by, and Berengarius was able to break through the large crowd of people and he stabbed St. Angelo. As St. Angelo was left severely wounded, he fell onto his knees, and he prayed for all the people of the world, and he prayed especially for his murderer.
