St. Claude de la Colombière
Today we will remember the life that was lived by St. Claude de la Colombière. During St. Claude’s life he had with the help from his friend and spiritual companion, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque promoted the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
St. Claude was very talented and he had shown remarkable preaching skills long before he was ordained during the year 1675. Two months later, St. Claude was made the superior of a very small Jesuit residence which was in Burgundy. It was there that he had first encountered St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. For many years after he had served as her confessor.
St. Claude was eventually sent to England where he had served as a confessor to the Duchess of York. He was able to preach both by words and by the example of his holy life, he was able to convert a large number of Protestants. Tensions had rose against Catholics and St. Claude, was rumored to be part of a plot against the king, and he was later imprisoned. He was ultimately banished, but by then his health had been ruined.
He died during the year 1682. St. John Paul II was canonized St. Claude de la Colombière during the year 1992.
Prayer to St. Claude de la Colombière
St. Claude intercede that we may be able to stand up for our faith even if it may be difficult to do. We pray that you may help us to live lives filled with peace and prayer. Help us to overcome any temptation we may encounter regardless of how tough it may be.
