St. Epipodius and St. Alexander
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Epipodius and Alexander. St. Epipodius and St. Alexander were two martyrs from Lyon, France. Both men passed away when they were young. They passed away during the year 178.
St. Alexander of Lyon:
St. Alexander was a martyr and missionary. St. Alexander would companion St. Caius on many journeys.
However, not a lot of information is known about St. Alexander’s or St. Caius’ background.
They were both active in Apamea, Phrygia, which was a center of the Montanist heresy. They both preached there, and the both of them were martyred during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius during the year 178.
St. Alexander is the patron saint of bachelors, the patron saint of victims of betrayal and of torture.
St. Epipodius of Lyon:
St. Epipodius was a friend of St. Alexander of Lyon. The both of them were imprisoned, tortured, abused and martyred together during the persecutions that occurred when Emperor Marcus Aurelius was the emperor.
Though St. Epipodius never joined any order, St. Epipodius lived a very celibate life and he devoted most of his time working with and for God. Both men were later handed over to imperial authorities by a servant and then they were martyred.
St. Epipodius is the patron saint of bachelors, the patron saint of victims of betrayal and of torture.
Prayer to St. Epipodius and St. Alexander:
St. Epipodius and St. Alexander intercede that we may be able to guide more people to Christ through our charitable actions and love. St. Epipodius and St. Alexander help us to deepen our devotion to Christ so that we may be able to fulfill his will and live a life filled with the virtues.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord and Mary Our Mother in Heaven
