St. Francis Borgia
Today we will remember the life that was lived by St. Francis Borgia. After St. Francis had experienced the death of his beloved wife, it had made St. Francis rethink the life that he had been living. This led to St. Francis' decision to give up his public life, and he had given away all of his possessions, and he had later joined the Society of Jesus.
St. Francis’ decision to join the religious life had proved to be the right choice for him. During that time of his life, St. Francis had felt drawn to spend a lot of time in seclusion and prayer, but his administrative talents also made him very successful in many other things. St. Francis had helped with the establishment of what is now known as the Gregorian University in Rome. After St. Francis was ordained, he served as a political worker and he was a spiritual adviser for the emperor. In Spain, St. Francis was able to found a dozen colleges.
At the age of 55, St. Francis was elected head of the Jesuits. He was able to focus on the growth of the Society of Jesus. St. Francis played an important role in the founding of Jesuit missions in Florida, Mexico, and Peru.
St. Francis Borgia is referred to as the second founder of the Jesuits. St. Francis had died during the year 1572 and he was canonized 100 years later. St. Francis is the patron saint of earthquakes and his feast day is celebrated on October 10.
Prayer to St. Francis Borgia:
St. Francis intercede that we may be able to guide more people to Christ through actions of peace, kindness, love, charity and mercy. St. Francis help us to be more peaceful people and help us to overcome all the obstacles we may encounter through prayer.
