St Henry ll
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Henry.
St. Henry was the German king and also the Holy Roman Emperor, St. Henry was a very practical man of affairs. St. Henry was said to be energetic in consolidating his rule. St. Henry had ended many rebellions and feuds. St. Henry had to deal with many disputes so he had to protect his frontiers. St. Henry was in many different kinds of battles, especially in one that had occurred in the south of Italy. St. Henry had also helped Pope Benedict VIII deal and settle many disturbances in Rome. St. Henry always had an ultimate purpose which was to establish a stable peace in Europe.
According to an eleventh-century custom, St. Henry had taken advantage of his position and he had appointed as bishops men loyal to him. In his case, St. Henry was able to avoid the pitfalls of this practice and he was actually able to foster the reform of ecclesiastical and monastic life.
St. Henry was later canonized during the year 1146. St. Henry’s feast day is celebrated on July 13.
Prayer to St. Henry
St. Henry intercede that we may be able to trust in Jesus’ will and be to do the best we can while trying to complete His will and guide others to Him.
