St Kateri Tekakwitha and St Francis Solano

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Kateri Tekakwitha and St. Francis Solano. Since I already have a post for St. Kateri, I will add the link to it in this post. This post will mostly focus on St. Francis Solano.

St. Francis Solano:

St. Francis Solano was raised by a very well off family from Andalusia, Spain. It is said that St. Francis was popular as a student. St. Francis had later decided to join the Friars Minor during the year 1570, and after his ordination he had decided to sacrifice himself for others. St. Francis would care for the sick during a very large epidemic, St. Francis had gained so much admiration for his help, that he had became embarrassed. St. Francis was later asked to be sent to the African missions. However, he was sent instead to South America during the year 1589.

While St. Francis was working hard in what is now Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay, St. Francis had quickly gained an understanding of the local languages and he was well received by all of the indigenous peoples. St. Francis would visit to the sick often and he would play a song on his violin.

Close to the year 1601, St. Francis was called to Lima, Peru, where he had tried to recall the Spanish colonists to their baptismal integrity. St. Francis also worked trying to defend the indigenous peoples from oppression. St. Francis had later died in Lima during the year 1610 and he was later canonized during the year 1726. St. Francis’ feast day is celebrated on July 14.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha

St. Kateri is an amazing saint and is one of the most resilient people that I have ever read about. Fueled by her large devotion and love for Christ, St. Kateri was able to find the strength, the courage, the resilience, the patience and the trust that she needed while trying to grow in her faith. Through St. Kateri's life and example it is evident why it is so important that we allow ourselves to surrender ourselves to Christ and let Him lead the way for us through our lives.
