St Luke

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Luke. St. Luke has written a very large and important part of the New Testament, St. Luke is truly inspirational and his writings contain so much truth and they can help us in very difficult moments. St. Luke’s writings can help us to strengthen our devotion and intimacy with Christ because they contains information about the way that we can serve others like Christ did. St. Luke is actually the only Gentile Christian among the Gospel writers. St. Luke is believed to have been a native of Antioch, and St. Paul has referred to him as “our beloved physician.” St. Luke’s Gospel was most likely written between 70 and 85 A.D.

St. Luke actually makes appearances in the Acts during some of St. Paul’s journeys. During the two year span that this occurred, St. Luke had the opportunity to seek new information and he was able to interview some people that knew Jesus. St. Luke had accompanied St. Paul on the dangerous journey to Rome where he was an extremely faithful companion.

St. Luke’s feast day is celebrated on October 18 and he is the patron saint of artists, butchers, physicians, surgeons and brewers.

Prayer to St. Luke:

St. Luke intercede that we may be able to keep our minds strong and healthy, pray that we may be able to keep ourselves away from all temptation, evil, injury, pain and sin. Help us to guide more people to Christ through acts of love, charity, peace and compassion.

Amen
