St. Michael de Sanctis
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Michael de Sanctis. St. Michael was born during the year 1591 in Catalonia, Spain. Ever since the young age of six he felt the calling to become a monk and he decided to tell his parents the great news.
St. Michael had a huge devotion to St. Francis of Assisi. St. Michael would imitate St. Francis and live a life of such plainness and strictness that people had to restrain him.
After, St. Michael’s parents passed away, he became an orphan which led to him becoming the apprentice of a merchant. During that time of his life he continued to live a very devoted life to God and he was extremely dedicated to learning more about God. During the year 1603 at young age of 12, St. Michael tried to join the Trinitarian monastery in Barcelona, Spain. A few years later when St. Michael was 15 years old, St. Michael took his vows on September 5, 1607. St. Michael took his vows at the monastery of Saint Lambert which was located in Zaragoza, Spain.
After some time had passed by, St. Michael felt the calling to join a reformed group of Trinitarians which were known as the Discalced Trinitarians. St. Michael was allowed to join and he started his Novitiate in Madrid, Spain. During that time St. Michael was able to study in Seville, Spain and he also spent time in Salamanca, Spain. He took his final vows in Alcalá, Spain and became a priest.
During St. Michael’s time as a priest he was elected superior of the monastery that was located in Valladolid, Spain twice. St. Michael was called a saint by many people during his life especially his confreres. St. Michael’s confreres said that St. Michael was a saint because of his reverence and deep devotion to God and to the Blessed Sacrament. St. Michael is said to have experienced many powerful ecstasies during Mass which showed how large his devotion was to God.
St. Michael died at the age of 35 on April 10, 1625. St. Michael may have lived a short life but he shows each of us how we can leave a lasting impact on people when we live a life of full devotion and reverence to Christ. After St. Michael passed away many miracles happened through his intercession.
During the year 1862, St. Michael was canonized by Pope Pius lX. St. Michael’s feast day is celebrated on April 10th.
It is evident that ever since a young age St. Michael chose to live a life filled with great holiness and devotion to Christ. By St. Michael placing Christ in the center of his life and thirsting to become more intimate with him, St. Michael was able to follow every calling from God and surrender himself to God fully and completely.
St. Michael is a great saint for all of the young people who are having a hard time finding their vocation in a world that seems so big and obnoxious to the human eye due to all of the agendas that are present in the world and all of the different paths the youth can take. St. Michael is a saint who can lead both young and old people to find their true callings from Christ, and St. Michael can help every single person deepen their devotion and love for Christ.
