St Peter Julian Eymard
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Peter. St. Peter was born in La Mure d’Isère which is located in southeastern France, St. Peter’s faith journey was able to take him down many different paths such as from being a priest in the Diocese of Grenoble during the year 1834, to later being able to join the Marists during the year 1839, and later being able to found the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament during the year 1856.
St. Peter had faced many issues during his life however, his devotion and love for his faith helped him overcome the many obstacles he faced. During his few years as a Marist, including the service he had done as a provincial leader, he was able to witness a large deepening of his Eucharistic devotion, especially through his very beautiful preaching of Forty Hours that he was able to do in many different parishes. Inspired at first by the idea of reparation for indifference to the Eucharist, St. Peter was actually able to attract to a more positive spirituality of Christ-centered love. The members of the men’s community that St. Peter was able to found had alternated between a very active apostolic life and a life contemplating Jesus in the Eucharist. St. Peter with the help from Marguerite Guillot was able to found the women's Congregation of the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Peter Julian Eymard was beatified during the year 1925 and he was later canonized during the year 1962, one day after Vatican II’s first session ended. St. Peter’s feast day is celebrated on August 3.
