St Rose of Viterbo
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Rose of Viterbo.
Ever since a very young age St. Rose had a very large desire to pray and to also help the poor. While St. Rose was still very young, she had decided to begin her life of penance while still living in her parents’ house. St. Rose was very generous to all the poor and she was very strict with herself. When St. Rose had turned the age of 10, she had decided to join the Secular Franciscans and she had soon began preaching in the streets about sin and the sufferings of Jesus.
St. Rose had lived in Viterbo, and unfortunately the city, was then in revolt against the pope. When St. Rose had decided to take the pope’s side against the emperor, she and her family were actually exiled from the city. When the pope’s side had won in Viterbo, St. Rose was later allowed to return. St. Rose had also attempted at the age of 15 to found a religious community, however, she was unfortunately unsuccessful, and she returned to a life of prayer and penance in her father’s home, where she had later died during the year 1251. St. Rose was canonized during the year 1457. St. Rose is the patron saint of florists and flower growers.

St. Rose please be with us during our lives, during difficult or stressful moments help us to remain calm and trust that Christ will help us to overcome any obstacles that we may be encountering.
