St. Marcellinus and St. Peter
Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Marcellinus and St. Peter. These two spectacular saints have done so much for the Catholic faith and they truly lived a life of full devotion to making sure that they completed the will of The Lord.
St. Marcellinus and St. Peter were two incredible and very important saints that they are included among the saints of the Roman Canon. The mention of their names is optional during our present Eucharistic Prayer I. How incredible is that they were such impactful saints that they may be mentioned in our present Eucharistic Prayer I.
Both St. Marcellinus and St. Peter lived incredible lives and both their lives had Christ at the center of their lives. This is key because once we place Christ at the center of our lives we allow ourselves to be guided by Him and we are able to surrender ourselves to Him during moments of pain or sorrow.
St. Marcellinus was a very devout priest and St. Peter was actually an exorcist. An exorcist is a person who is able to deal with cases of demonic possession.
Both St. Marcellinus and St. Peter were unfortunately beheaded during the large persecution of Emperor Diocletian. Pope Damasus wrote a very powerful epitaph that was based on the report of their executioner. Also, Constantine decided to build a basilica over the crypt in which they were both buried in Rome. Many different legends have come into existence from an early account of their death.
St. Marcellinus and St. Peter’s feast day is celebrated on June 2. These powerful saints protected the faith so that we may be able to celebrate the wonderful mysteries of the faith.
Prayer to St. Marcellinus and St. Peter St. Marcellinus and St. Peter intercede that we may be able to deepen our intimacy and relationship with The Lord. So easily us humans are able to slip and encounter moments of temptation or trial, we pray that you may be with us during these difficult moments and help us to find the peace and strength in The Lord during these moments so that we may overcome them. Amen St. Marcellinus and St. Peter pray for us St. Joseph pray for us
May we continue to strengthen our journey to sainthood and keep others in our prayers.
