St. Wenceslaus and Guardian Angels

Today we celebrate the feast day of the Guardian Angels, I already have a post for angels so I will put the link for the post in this post. This is a very powerful and beautiful feast day, so during this feast we should pray to our Guardian Angels for guidance and protection. Our Guardian Angels are always with us and they are always trying to help us follow Christ and strengthen our devotion to Him. Let’s call on them today and everyday for guidance, peace, protection, courage, love and mercy, and let’s ask them to help us to strengthen our relationship with Christ.

Today we will also learn about St. Wenceslaus. St. Wenceslaus was born during the year 907 and he was the son of the Duke of Bohemia. His saintly grandmother had spent much time raising him and she wanted to promote him as ruler of Bohemia in a place where his mother had favored the anti-Christian organizations. Unfortunately his grandmother was eventually murdered, but rival Christian forces enabled St. Wenceslaus to be part of the leadership of the government.

During St. Wenceslaus' leadership he had worked hard to accomplish unification within Bohemia, he had support of the Church, and he worked towards peace-making negotiations with Germany and many other things. Due to the things that he had tried to accomplish he faced a lot of anti-Christian opposition. On his way to Mass one day, his brother Boleslav had attacked him, and in the struggle, St. Wenceslaus was killed by his brother's supporters.

Although his death resulted primarily from political upheaval, St. Wenceslaus was actually hailed as a martyr for the faith, and his tomb had become a pilgrimage shrine. St. Wenceslaus is the patron saint of the Bohemian people. St. Wenceslaus’ feast day is celebrated on September 28.
